The Sri Lanka–Russia Business Council (SLRBC) of The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its Members’ Night, bringing together distinguished dignitaries, business leaders, and stakeholders to celebrate and further strengthen the longstanding relationship between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation.
The event was graced by His Excellency Levan S. Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka, as Chief Guest. In his address, the Ambassador reaffirmed the strong and enduring ties between the two nations and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation amidst evolving global challenges. He also noted ongoing discussions on potential collaboration in key sectors such as energy, while underscoring the importance of maintaining steady and constructive bilateral engagement.
Delivering the welcome address, Chamath Hettiarachchi, President of the SLRBC, highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Sri Lanka and Russia, built on mutual respect and cooperation. He emphasized the vast potential for expanding partnerships in areas including trade, tourism, agriculture, energy, logistics, education and technology, noting that platforms such as the Members’ Night play a vital role in fostering business connections and strengthening economic ties.
A highlight of the evening was the felicitation of Dr. Saman Weerasinghe, former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, in recognition of his contribution to enhancing bilateral relations. In his address, Dr. Weerasinghe reflected on his longstanding association with Russia and expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Russian Government and people throughout his career.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Sunith Caldera expressed appreciation to the Chief Guest, speakers, sponsors, and participants for contributing to the event’s success, and also the Russian Embassy, members of the Council, and event partners for their continued commitment.
The evening concluded on a high note with networking and fellowship, reaffirming the Sri Lanka–Russia Business Council’s role as a key platform for promoting trade, investment, and cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation.
