Categories of Membership

Eligibility to be admitted as a Member, privileges and fees

Rule 3:
Member
Any Firm, Company, Corporation or Individual, resident in Sri Lanka and engaged or interested in the general trade of Sri Lanka and willing to aid in the carrying into effect the objects of the Chamber. All privileges of membership. Entrance fee- Rs. 20,000/=
Annual subscription- Rs. 97,000/=
Rule 6:
Patron Member
At any time after admission as a member of the Chamber, a member may inform the Secretary General of the desire to be recognized as a Patron member and such member shall, upon making the Patron Member subscription, be recognized as a Patron member and shall thereupon be entitled to such special privileges as may be determined by the Committee for Patron Members in addition to the rights and privileges of a member. All privileges of membership.; and Special privileges determined by the Committee. Annual subscription- Rs. 225,000/=
Rule 9:
Associate Members
Any Firm, Company, Corporation or Individual, resident in Sri Lanka and engaged or interested in the general trade of Sri Lanka and willing to aid in the carrying into effect the objects of the Chamber and whose annual turnover of that individual or entity and the number of employees in permanent employment by that individual or entity is less than such amount as is determined by the Committee.

Conditions – an Associate member is permitted to retain the Associate membership only for a maximum period of three years and shall be admitted as a member of the Chamber if all the requirements for membership are satisfied.

Privileges determined by the Committee Entrance fee- Rs. 3,000/=
Annual subscription- Rs. 25,000/=

Trade Section

Rule 12 provides that any number of members, who may desire to associate themselves together in a Trade Section with a view to representing more effectually the interests of any particular business or trade, may address the Committee to that effect and the Committee may, if it thinks fit, authorize the formation of such a Trade Section.

Privileges – Since all members of a Trade Section are members of the Chamber, the Trade Section will have the rights of a Member.

A Trade Section has the right of representation on the Committee of the Chamber.

Eligibility to be admitted as a Member

In terms of section 6 of the Ordinance the Members are empowered to make Rules, among other things, for the admission, withdrawal and expulsion of Members. Accordingly, in terms of Rules so adopted, the following are eligible to be admitted as Members

Rule 4 : Members

Eligibility – Any Firm, Company, Corporation or Individual, resident in Sri Lanka and engaged or interested in the general trade of Sri Lanka and willing to aid in the carrying into effect the objects of the Chamber.

Admission by – Election of the membership, upon application made.

Privileges – all privileges of membership.

Rule 7 : Honorary Members

Eligibility – Persons distinguished in commerce, art, finance or administration or who shall have rendered to the Chamber services that the Chamber Committee considers to be of a special nature.

Admission by – Resolution adopted by the membership at a general meeting of the Chamber);

Privileges – All privileges of membership. Not required to pay entrance fee or subscription.

Rule 7(a) (i) : Overseas Members

Eligibility – Any Firm, Company, Corporation or Individual, resident outside Sri Lanka and engaged in exporting goods, services or technology to Sri Lanka or in making investments in Sri Lanka, and is willing to aid in the carrying into effect the objects of the Chamber.

Admission by – Election of the general membership

Privileges – All privileges other than the right to vote, to requisition meetings, to be appointed/elected to the Committee, to hold office in the Chamber as a member of the Committee or as an office bearer of the Chamber or as a member of a sub committee of the Chamber.

Rule 7(b)(i) : Affiliated Members

Eligibility – A Chamber of Commerce having objects which are not in conflict with or contrary to the objects of the Chamber, consisting of members who are engaged in trade or industry in Sri Lanka or being situated in a foreign country is composed of members who are engaged in trade with Sri Lanka or otherwise interested in exchanging information or collaborating with the Chamber

Admission by – Election of the general membership

Privileges – All the rights and privileges

Approved Associations & Affiliates of the Chamber

Rule 17:
Approved Associations
An Association or other body of persons-

a) properly constituted,

b)consisting of persons who are engaged in trade or industry in Sri Lanka, which in the opinion of the Chamber Committee, makes a significant contribution to national economic value; and

c)has objects which are not in conflict with or contrary to the objects of the Chamber,

is eligible but not entitled, to be recognized as an Approved Association of the Chamber.

a) A member who satisfies the eligibility criteria in Rule 22, may with the approval of the Chamber Committee, represent the Association on the Committee.

b) Representative serves on the Chamber Committee for the duration of the term of office of the Committee in office at the time of such nomination;

c) Eligible Representative shall be entitled to attend meetings of the Chamber Committee.

Annual subscription – Rs. 30,000/=
Rule 18:
Affiliated Chamber
A Chamber of Commerce-

a) having objects which are not in conflict with or contrary to the objects of the Chamber; and

b) consisting of members who are engaged in trade or industry in Sri Lanka; or
being situated in a foreign country, is composed of members who are engaged in trade with Sri Lanka ; or

c) otherwise interested in exchanging information or collaborating with the Chamber
is eligible but not entitled, to be admitted as an Affiliated Chamber.

a) A nominee of an affiliated Chamber, who is acceptable to the Chamber Committee, may be appointed a member of the Committee;
b) Nominee serves on the Chamber Committee for the duration of the term of office of the Committee in office at the time of such nomination;c) Nominee shall be entitled to attend meetings of the Chamber Committee.
Annual subscription – Rs. 2,000/=
Rule 19:
Affiliated Member
A body of persons-

a) properly constituted on the initiative of the Chamber,

b) not engaged in a trade or industry but engaged in the discharge of functions and services that have value across sectors to all private sector entities; and

c) has objects that are not in conflict with or contrary to the objects of the Chamber

may be admitted as an Affiliated Member of the Chamber upon approval by the Committee.

a) A nominee who is eligible in terms of Rule 22, may be appointed a member of the Committee;
b) Nominee serves on the Chamber Committee for the duration of the term of office of the Committee in office at the time of such nomination.c) Nominee shall be entitled to attend meetings of the Chamber Committee.
