Ceylon Chamber Partners with Kegalle Chamber to Strengthen Regional Business Potential

The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce recently met with the leadership of the Kegalle District Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (KDCCIA) to discuss strategies to uplift local enterprises and facilitate new opportunities for the district.

The discussions centred on key development sectors for Kegalle, notably tourism and agriculture, and the potential to move industries such as spices from raw material production to higher valued processing and export linkages. KDCCIA expressed interest in working closely with the Ceylon Chamber to address challenges its members face, gain access to wider markets, and ensure that the voice of regional businesses is heard at national policy platforms.

As the premier business chamber in the country, the Ceylon Chamber is committed to supporting inclusive economic growth across Sri Lanka. In response to KDCCIA’s requirements, the Ceylon Chamber will work with KDCCIA to organise targeted training sessions in Kegalle to enhance product quality and encourage diversification and value additions. There was also agreement to facilitate linkages between Kegalle producers and Colombo-based supermarkets to strengthen market access.

KDCCIA also highlighted the need for skill development in tourism, particularly through specialised training for tour guides, to help the region better capitalise on its natural attractions, including the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage and adventure-based tourism.

As part of ongoing collaboration, the Ceylon Chamber invited KDCCIA representatives to attend the National SME Forum taking place on 21st May at Trace Expert City. Organised by the Ceylon Chamber, the forum will bring together SMEs from across the country to network and explore business opportunities. It is open to regional chambers, entrepreneurs, and business leaders, and will serve as a valuable platform to connect with national-level initiatives.
