It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you all to the BEST CORPORATE CITIZEN SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS 2016 the flagship Annual event of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce the premier business Chamber of Sri Lanka.
The Chamber of Ceylon is proud to host ‘The Best Corporate Citizen Sustainability Awards for the 13th consecutive year. This event has over the years become a much looked forward to event in the Corporate Calendar of Sri Lanka. This augurs well for the country as it is an indication of the maturity of the business community and their sense of responsibility.
Climate change, pollution, population growth, urbanization, and the scarcity of natural resources are posing challenges to the world. Negligent corporate behavior, too has contributed to environmental disasters such as pollution, fire, water contamination and oil spills globally. We need to find answers to these urgent questions and find them fast.
We as responsible corporate entities, should ensure that every measure is taken, within our purview, to avoid such disasters occurring within the communities, we operate focusing on the important P’s of ‘People’ and ‘Planet’ while making ‘Profits’. We at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, would like to encourage our members and the business community to take on the sustainability agenda with renewed passion.
Take the bold step of setting sustainability targets such as improving energy efficiency and water usage. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and landfills finding ways to recycle resources and the safe disposal of waste. This year too, the Chamber has lined up a collection of awards to recognize the best performers in corporate sustainability initiatives in Sri Lanka.
