Ceylon Chamber to conduct seminar on ‘WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement’.
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will conduct a seminar on the WTO’ Trade Facilitation Agreement and its relevance for the Lankan businesses.
The seminar to be held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on the 27th June, starting at 2.30 pm, will see several senior trade officials and experts on the subject lining up to deliver presentations at the event.
Mr. Somasena Mahadiulwewa and Mr. Geshan Dissanayake, both Assistant Directors of the Department of Commerce, Ms. Suwendrini Jayaratne, Research Officer, Institute of Policy Studies, Mr. Sudattha Silva, Superintendent of Customs and Mr. Tuli Cooray, Secretary General, Joint Apparel Association Forum will take part as Resource Persons. Additionally, a Representative of EFC too will form the Panel during the panel discussion. Mrs. Dhara Wijayatilake, CEO of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce will conduct the welcome remarks.
The WTO trade facilitation agreement and its protocol towards Sri Lankan businesses, the need for the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement, its benefits to local businesses, Current Initiatives to Improve Trade Facilitation in Sri Lanka and Pending Issues Faced by Sri Lanka Businesses etc. will come under discussion at this seminar.
Trade experts are of the opinion that the implementation of the trade facilitation agreement will bring positive results, to small economies such as Sri Lanka to improve their competitiveness in the global market and to attract foreign direct investment through application of simplified border control measures in supporting trade.
