| Kidney damage begins long before you notice any symptoms. Diabetic nephropathy is the medical term for kidney problems caused by diabetes. Nephropathy affects both kidneys at the same time. This can lead to a serious condition, sometimes leading to kidney transplant. In standard transplants, both donor and recipient belong to a common blood group. However, there is hope for many, with the recent introduction of a new procedure. The procedure, known as an ABO incompatible kidney transplant, allows an organ to be accepted even when blood types do not match. With ABO incompatible transplants, it is now possible to have a bigger donor pool bringing hope for many.
Dr. Lye Wai Choong, Consultant Nephrologist of Mount Elizabeth Hospitals in Singapore, is the Doctor who has done the first ABO incompatible and cross match positive kidney transplant in South East Asia. This is a very complicated type of kidney transplant which cannot be done in Sri Lanka, yet. The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce in association with Parkway Group Healthcare Pte Ltd. of Singapore and Colombo, (bring you a yet another opportunity to directly discuss with the Expert himself on any health issues bothering you with regard to your kidneys.
